Background
Students of all ages are constantly being asked what they want to be when they grow up. Wishing to become an astronaut or movie star may eventually evolve into a becoming an engineer or English teacher. The decision is often times capricious but, ideally, a student’s decision should be based on his or her academic strengths and identified skill sets in addition to their interests. ConnectEDU is making this a reality.
The Connect! Career Network introduces students to 350 career opportunities that integrate with their student profile and personal preferences. Connect! outlines the educational path for those careers. Relevant college majors are presented as well as the high school curriculum recommended to transition into those majors. Students using Connect! are empowered by a network that shows students their potential and then shows the student how to reach it.
To further engage students, ConnectEDU invites employers into Connect! The addition of employers closes the gap between curriculum plans, college paths and employment opportunities. In addition to learning about 27,000 companies, students can meet employer partners and build relationships that shape students’ expectations regarding their career choices. Mentors can help inform students academic decisions well before the student enters the workforce.
