Background
Each year three quarters of a billion sheets of paper are produced to complete college applications in the United States: enough paper to circle the globe 5.5 times. High schools and colleges across the country are joining the Connect! National Network to eliminate paper. In addition to saving time, saving cost and saving frustration, Connect! is saving trees.
In a recent survey of Connect! students, 91% of college-bound students indicated that they are concerned about the environment. Unfortunately, nearly half of them were not aware of the threat the admissions process poses to the environment. For many students, it’s not until after they go through the process of sending paper files to the college that they realize how they are being forced to contribute to the problem. While many colleges are addressing sustainability in their facilities and student life initiatives, many are ignoring the simple measures they can take to build a paperless admissions office.
Hundreds of Connect! colleges are taking the first steps to make sure students can apply completely through electronic data exchange. By sponsoring high schools in their region, these college partners are not only encouraging the high school guidance offices to GO GREEN at no cost but are also building eco-friendly admissions offices. ConnectEDU invites high schools and colleges to join the network to work together to achieve GREENER ADMISSIONS for the next generation of college-bound students.
