Background
No other group has used the web more efficiently to network itself than the group of current college-bound students. As e-mail helped an older generation communicate more quickly, web-based networks are helping young people manage their daily lives. Social networks such as Facebook and MySpace have provided an opportunity for young people to stay in touch with contacts, meet new people and share information about themselves.
ConnectEDU is building a similar network of users, but with a more content-driven purpose. The Connect! National Network™ is the first “purpose network” of its kind. Dedicated to the college and career planning process, this expanding network is reaching 500,000 users nationwide. In a verified, secure online environment, students, parents, guidance counselors, college admissions officers, college advisors and employers are united with one mission: to help students reach their goals.
Up until now, students and their families have approached the college admissions process on an individual basis. Often without regard for curriculum or career options, students transition with few resources and limited interaction with the people who can guide them along the way, including their peers. ConnectEDU’s purpose network connects students with others who can share their experience and engages them in a process to help them make informed decisions about their future.
